It's Not Covid-19: How To Keep Your Allergy Symptoms In Check

Posted on

There was a time when allergy symptoms were a mere nuisance. With the current pandemic, though, you need to take care of those allergy symptoms as quickly as possible. This is especially true when it comes to symptoms such as a runny nose, scratchy throat, or red eyes. That's because these symptoms can also be signs of Covid-19. Unfortunately, exhibiting any type of symptoms that can be confused with Covid-19 can get you sent home from work or school. To avoid that risk, you need to control your allergy symptoms as much as possible. Here are four steps you can take to control your allergy symptoms.

Continue With Your Allergy Medication

If you're worried about people confusing your allergy symptoms with the symptoms of Covid-19, make sure you continue taking your allergy medications. This is especially true if you normally only take your allergy medication once you feel the onset of symptoms. You can stop symptoms in their tracks by taking your allergy medication on a daily basis. Taking your allergy medication on a daily basis will help you to avoid symptoms altogether.

Identify All of Your Allergy Triggers

If you're not sure what your allergy triggers are, now's a good time to identify them. There may be allergy triggers that you're unaware of. Unfortunately, that means you may not be able to recognize your own allergy symptoms. One way to identify allergens is to document where you are or what you're doing as soon as you experience an allergy symptom. It's also a good idea to talk to your allergist about a new screening test. That way, you can identify any new allergies you might have developed.

Take Action After Outdoor Exposure

If you're going to be outside, take action to eliminate the carry-on allergens. Carry-ons are the allergens that attach themselves to your clothing and skin when you're outside. First, change clothes as soon as you get home. Be sure to wash the clothing you've removed. Second, wash the parts of your body that were exposed while you were outside, including your face and hands. Finally, use a saline spray to cleanse the inside of your nasal passages. This will wash away any allergens that have attached themselves to your nasal passages.

Visit Your Allergist as Needed

If you're worried that your allergy symptoms will be confused with Covid-19 symptoms, be sure to visit your allergist as needed. They can adjust your medication or provide you with other tips on how to control your allergy symptoms. Ask them questions you have about your allergies
