Diagnosing problems with sleep has always been a bit difficult. By the time you wake up and head to your doctor's office, all the issues you were having with sleeping have passed! This is why, in many cases, people with sleep-related issues are advised to visit a sleep center where their sleep is observed and studied via what's known as a sleep study. So, what are some signs you may benefit from a sleep study?

Excessive tiredness in the daytime.

If you're often or always tired all day, then you may be having trouble sleeping. Even if you think you're falling asleep and staying asleep, your sleep may be unproductive for some reason. You could be experiencing sleep apnea, which prevents your brain from getting enough oxygen while you're sleeping. Or, your brain may not be entering the deep sleep part of the cycle that you need to enter in order to wake up feeling rested. A sleep study will help establish why you're so tired so that any issues can be addressed and you can feel rested again.

Waking up a lot at night.

There are many reasons why someone may wake up frequently at night. The problem may be as simple as there being too much light or sound in your bedroom. However, you could also have a sleep disorder that's causing you to sleep lightly or wake repeatedly. It's a good idea to rule out any medical explanations via sleep study. If this does not turn up any results, then you can look for other explanations.

Excessive snoring.

Most people snore now and then. It's not always a reason to be concerned. However, if your partner always complains that you're snoring loudly, consistently, or with an alarming rhythm, then you may want to go through a sleep study. You could have sleep apnea or a similar airway obstructive issue.

Falling asleep during the day.

Not all sleep problems occur at night! Some people have trouble staying awake during the day. You might even drift off to sleep when you're sitting at your desk or behind the wheel of your car. Not surprisingly, this can be dangerous, so you should absolutely visit a sleep center for an evaluation.
